UFC 244: Nate Diaz faces lengthy suspension after war with Jorge Masvidal

It could take quite some time before we see Nate Diaz back in the octagon, the same goes for previously unbeaten Gregor GIllespie

The aftermath from UFC 244 is beginning to settle. The landmark event was one of the biggest and most entertaining UFC events in recent years , delivering several exciting bouts and finishes. Now the medical suspensions are in, and headliner Nate Diaz received a lengthy layoff.

In the medical suspensions handed out from the New York State Athletic Commission (NYSAC), Diaz was handed a 90 day suspension, as he received two deep cuts – Which ended the fight with Jorge Masvidal via doctor stoppage. According to UFC president Dana White, Diaz will also undergo surgery to remove excess cartilage from  his eyebrows to prevent these cuts from opening up as easily.

“Diaz has to get sewed up tonight then in four weeks he’s gotta have plastic surgery to get all the cartilage out of his eyebrows, or whatever the doctor was telling me. He’s gotta have some work done,” White said.

Diaz was not the only one to receive a 90 day suspension, several other fighters did as well. Chance Cencountre, Andrei Arlovski, Brad Tavares and Makwan Amirkhani were all stopped via strikes in their respective bouts. All were also handed 90 day suspensions from NYSAC. On the main card, previously unbeaten hometown fighter Gregor Gillespie was brutally knocked out in the first round by a returning Kevin Lee. Gillespie will also be out for 90 days.
