Video: See rising star Khamzat Chimaev receive his BJJ blue belt!

"I've been fighting for this blue belt for three years"

As if breakout UFC star Khamzat Chimaev wasn’t dangerous enough on the ground, he was just awarded his Brazilian Jiu Jitsu blue belt! After going 2-0 in the UFC in the span of less than two weeks, Chimaev’s star has risen to unprecedented heights and now he has even more credentials to add to his already impressive resumé.

Training under Alan “Finfou” Nascimento at Allstars Training Center in Stockholm, Sweden, Chimaev has been working hard at his BJJ game. MMAnytt were on site as Nascimento surprised Chimaev with his blue belt, to the cheers of their team mates.

“I’ve been fighting for this blue belt for three years,” Khamzat Chimaev said upon receiving his blue belt. “I’m really nervous! Not even when I’m fighting am I this nervous! Thank you everyone, I really like training with all of you.  I’m going to try to get even more submission (wins) now!”

The welterweight made a huge splash in the UFC, making his promotional debut on short notice and defeating John Phillips via second round submission. He then returned ten days later, bulldozing Rhys McKee via first round TKO. Since then he has called out the likes of Mike Perry, Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone and of course – Conor McGregor.

With a possible top 15 opponent waiting in Chimaev’s next fight, there is good reason to keep a closer eye on this Swedish-Chechen prospect.
