Khabib Nurmagomedov flabbergasted by Tony Ferguson’s bizarre training

"Active rest"

Tony Ferguson is no stranger to unusual training techniques, something that caused a reaction from reigning UFC champ Khabib Nurmagomedov.

Since its announcement, UFC 249 has been the most anticipated MMA event of the year. UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov and #1-ranked Tony Ferguson have been training for months for their bout – A fight that fans have been clamouring for since 2015 when they were first booked to throw down. However, the bout has been cancelled four times previously for a variety of unforeseen reasons. UFC 249, set for April 18th, was to be topped off with Nurmagomedov vs Ferguson, though that event seems to be in peril, despite UFC boss Dana White assuring fans that the title bout will happen.

Be it injury, illness or other unfortunate circumstances, the previous bouts between Nurmagomedov and Ferguson have been cancelled. Ferguson is known for odd and unconventional training regimens, and he continued with similar training techniques in a recent video posted on Instagram.

This garnered a response from his rival and future foe Nurmagomedov, who seemed surprised by the video.

“Training with [a] belt and jeans?” Nurmagomedov said (via ESPN)

Both Nurmagommedov and Ferguson have beaten many of the divisions best and they are without a doubt at the top of the lightweight ladder. Nurmagomedov has now defeated the likes of Al Iaquinta and Conor McGregor. Ferguson most recently beat Anthony Pettis and Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone.

Do you think we will see Nurmagomedov vs Ferguson on April 18th?
