Justin Gaethje responds to Conor McGregor: ‘It’s ironic that…’

"Careful Conor McGregor you are..."

Newly crowned interim champ Justin Gaethje thinks it’s ironic how Conor McGregor has changed his way of getting fights, and he’s letting him hear it in his response.

There is no shortage of feuding in the fight game. Mental warfare and verbal sparring is a natural part of the lead up to a bout or the booking of a fight. For several years Conor McGregor has been the gold standard when it comes to trash talk. Many times he seemingly had his opponents defeated before they even stepped into the cage.

Last weekend at UFC 249, Justin Gaethje shot to the top of the division, defeating Tony Ferguson via TKO and winning the interim lightweight title. Immediately there was talk of Gaethje and McGregor fighting, as it’s uncertain when reigning lightweight champ Khabib Nurmagomedov will return. Previously, Gaethje slammed McGregor in the media, calling him a “shit father” amongst other things. These comments did not sit well with McGregor, who lashed out at Gaethje.

“Justin, there is no danger in a man that hugs legs, we all know,” McGregor wrote. “Try and dance around what the real threat is here all you want. I am going to fucking butcher you. Your teeth. I’m going to put them on a fucking necklace. Speak on my skills as a father? You are fucking dead.”

This garnered a reply from Gaethje, who brought up McGregor’s inconsistent fight schedule, and implied that the Irishman needs to beg for fights. This is a stark contrast to McGregor’s previous situation, in which multiple fighters across several divisions were calling him out.

“Isn’t it ironic that this dude is on his knees, careful Conor McGregor you are losing your clout, ” Justin Gaethje wrote in a response on Twitter. “Dustin Poirier is sitting there ready to go like I was for the last 3 years.

Is there truth to the response Justin Gaethje had for Conor McGregor?
