Jon Jones Kicks Off His UFC Comeback Journey

"Jon Jones: Excited to begin my UFC return"

The Road to Recovery

In a significant update that has thrilled MMA fans, Jon Jones has begun his journey back to the UFC octagon following a serious injury and subsequent surgery in October last year. The reigning heavyweight champion took to social media to announce his return to training for the first time since his chest muscle tear surgery. This injury had previously forced him to withdraw from a scheduled title defense against former champion Stipe Miocic, a highly anticipated heavyweight bout that was set to headline UFC 295.

Announcing the Comeback

Jones shared the news with an Instagram post where he posed with his teammates and coaches Brandon Gibson and Greg Jackson. “First day back in the gym since my injury, it felt amazing. And now it begins,” wrote Jon Jones. His post clearly signals a strong comeback intent, underscoring his determination to return to form.

Off-the-Octagon Challenges

Since his injury, Jones has not only been focusing on his recovery but has also been in the media spotlight for less favorable reasons. He faced allegations of “assaulting” a woman who visited his home to administer a drug test. The woman accused Jones of seizing her phone and threatening her life, claims that Jones has denied.

Previous Triumph and Future Prospects

Jones has not fought since March 2023 when he secured the UFC heavyweight title by defeating Ciryl Gane through a submission in just two minutes. Despite the planned title match between Jones and Miocic being replaced due to Jones’s injury, UFC booked an interim title fight at UFC 295, where Tom Aspinall knocked out Sergei Pavlovich. Even though Aspinall holds the interim title, Jones is expected to return in the summer to face Miocic, amidst vocal objections from Aspinall.

In lieu of a direct title challenge, Aspinall is slated to compete at UFC 304, which will take place in Manchester, England. The event is officially confirmed to feature two title matches, though Aspinall’s opponent has yet to be announced.
