BREAKING ODDS for Weili Zhang vs Joanna Jedrzejczyk announced

Today the UFC officially announced a strawweight title fight between reigning champion Weili Zhang and former champ Joanna Jedrzejczyk. The bout is scheduled to take place at UFC 248, the city and venue is not yet determined. The fight pits newly crowned Chinese queen Zhang against Poland’s Jedrzejczyk , who was champion between 2015-2017. Leading up to UFC 248, the former champion Jedrzejczyk enters thee bout as the betting underdog at 2.12, while Zhang sits as  a moderate favourite at 1.70. Zhang’s meteoric ascent to the top of the ranks, accompanied by tepid performances from Jedrzejczyk , undoubtedly affected the odds.

Zhang debuted in the UFC in 2018, beating Danielle Taylor via unanimous decision. She then defeated both Jessica Aguilar and Tecia Torres before challenging former strawweight champion Jessica Andrade at UFC Shenzhen. There, in front of thousands of her countrymen, Zhang rose to the occasion, beating Andrade via first round knockout.

While Jedrzejczyk  reigned supreme or two years with five straight title defences, she was dethroned via KO by Rose Namajunas. Their rematch at UFC 223 went all five rounds, with Namajunas once more coming out on top. Jedrzejczyk rebounded with a decision victory over Tecia Torres, before challenging Valentina Shevchenko for the flyweight title – Once again losing via decision. The Polish fighters returned to the win column in her last outing with a unanimous decision victory over Michelle Waterson.
