Why Khamzat Withdrew: Manager Speaks Out

“Entering the Octagon Unprepared…”

Manager Majdi Shammas Explains

The highly anticipated main event between Robert Whittaker and Khamzat Chimaev, set for UFC’s debut event in Saudi Arabia, has been canceled. Chimaev has been replaced by Ikram Aliskerov. Many fans have been curious about the reasons behind Chimaev’s withdrawal. In an Instagram post, Chimaev’s manager, Majdi Shammas, clarified the situation.

“In and Out of the Hospital”

Shammas revealed that Chimaev suffered from severe illness during his training camp. Despite numerous hospital visits, the team initially kept the issue internal, hoping Chimaev would recover in time. However, the situation worsened, forcing them to pull Chimaev from the fight.

“Entering the Octagon Unprepared…”

Shammas emphasized the impossibility of facing a fighter of Whittaker’s caliber without proper preparation. He apologized to the UFC, Whittaker, and the fans, promising that Chimaev would return stronger once fully recovered.

Impact on Chimaev’s Career

This development is disappointing, as a victory over Whittaker could have set Chimaev up for a title shot against champion Dricus Du Plessis. Now, Chimaev focuses on his health, with the possibility of rescheduling the fight or facing a new opponent in the middleweight division remaining uncertain.

Whittaker vs. Aliskerov: The New Main Event

With Chimaev’s withdrawal, Robert Whittaker will now face Ikram Aliskerov in the main event. Aliskerov, a Dagestani fighter riding a seven-fight win streak, steps in as a formidable opponent. This bout still holds significant implications for the middleweight division, keeping fans eagerly anticipating the event in Saudi Arabia.
