In a thrilling match at UFC 299 in Miami, Florida, former welterweight title challenger Gilbert Burns faced off against the undefeated 27-year-old Jack Della Maddalena. Despite a strong performance that seemed to lead Burns towards a decision victory, Maddalena clinched the win with a well-placed knee in the third round.

This victory marked the Australian’s seventeenth consecutive win, while Burns now faces back-to-back losses within the premier MMA organization. Prior to this, Burns suffered a defeat against Belal Muhammad by unanimous decision.

Post-match, Burns took to Instagram to express his feelings about the fight. He praised Maddalena’s performance and reassured his fans of his comeback. “It felt good in there! I had a good camp and a solid plan, unfortunately, this is what happens in the sport, I made a bad decision and paid for it!

Maddalena Calls Out Shavkat Rakhmonov for Future Bout

Following his victory over Burns, Maddalena issued a challenge to top-ranked UFC talent Shavkat Rakhmonov. Rakhmonov, who remains undefeated with a record of 18-0, is known for his dominant performance against UFC veteran Stephen Thompson at UFC 296 in December of the previous year.
