Ex title challenger Volkan Oezdemir underdog against young gun Aleksandar Rakic
The UFC returns to South Korea with UFC Busan, the last of the promotion’s events this year. The main event sees hometown hero Chan Sung Jung, also known as “The Korean Zombie”, take on Brian Ortega. In the co-main event, light heavyweights Volkan Oezdemir #8 and Aleksandar Rakic #10 collide in an intriguing match up between powerful European strikers. Ohmbet have now released odds for the bout, among the very first betting lines in the world for the bout.
Ohmbet have the up-and-coming prospect Rakic as a comfortable favourite at 1.60. Meanwhile, the veteran Oezdemir finds himself the betting underdog at 2.30. While the odds may seem surprising on the surface, the trajectory these two have had over the last few years may explain the betting lines.
Oezdemir debuted in the UFC 2017, winning three straight fights and setting himself up for a title shot. The challenge for the light heavyweight title did not go well for Oezdemir, who was soundly defeated by then champion Daniel Cormier via second round submission. He was then submitted by Anthony Smith before losing a controversial split decision to undefeated Dominick Reyes. He returned to the win column in his last bout, where he knocked out Ilir Latifi in the third round at UFC Montevideo.

Rakic, on the other hand, has only found more and more success in the octagon so far. He began his UFC career with dominant decision wins over Francimar Barosso and Justin Ledet. After that he TKO’d Devin Clark in the very first round, and followed up with a vicious knockout win over Jimi Manuwa. With four straight wins, it’s easy to see why many hail Rakic as a future title contender.
