CONFIRMED: Conor McGregor Appeals Civil Rape Verdict
Appeal Submitted Last Friday
Irish mixed martial arts star Conor McGregor has officially appealed the civil court verdict that found him liable for raping Nikita Hand in a Dublin hotel room in December 2018. According to court records, McGregor submitted his appeal last Friday to the Irish courts. The previous ruling by Dublin’s High Court ordered him to pay over €248,000 in damages and cover the plaintiff’s legal costs, which could amount to €1 million. McGregor has expressed his dissatisfaction with the verdict and intends to have it overturned.
Companies Distance Themselves from McGregor
Following the court’s decision, several companies and partners have severed ties with McGregor. Proximo Spirits, the owner of Proper No. Twelve whiskey—which McGregor co-founded in 2018—announced they will no longer use his name or likeness in their marketing campaigns. Additionally, major retailers such as Tesco, SuperValu, and Centra have removed McGregor-associated products from their shelves. In the gaming industry, IO Interactive, developers of the popular Hitman series, have ended their collaboration with McGregor and are removing all related content from their platforms.

Additional Sexual Assault Allegation in Miami
McGregor is also facing a new civil lawsuit in the United States, where he is accused of sexual assault during the NBA Finals in June 2023 in Miami. According to the lawsuit filed in January 2025, the incident allegedly occurred during a game between the Miami Heat and the Denver Nuggets at the Kaseya Center. The plaintiff, a 49-year-old woman who works as a vice president at a prominent Wall Street-based financial institution, claims that McGregor followed her into a restroom and assaulted her. McGregor’s attorney has dismissed the allegations as false, noting that the state attorney’s office previously declined to pursue criminal charges after an investigation.
Is This the End for McGregor?
With two ongoing legal battles, lost sponsorships, and an uncertain UFC comeback, McGregor appears to be in one of the most challenging periods of his career. His future in the sport, once seemingly assured, is now more uncertain than ever. Pressure is mounting on the UFC and its president, Dana White, to address the situation. McGregor has not competed since July 2021, when he suffered a leg fracture in a bout against Dustin Poirier, and his planned return has been postponed multiple times. The future for “The Notorious” remains unclear.
