Swedish combat sports legend Alexander Gustafsson will return for a contest on home soil against a local rising prospect

Three time UFC title challenger Alexander Gustafsson is back! While his retirement from MMA still stands, Gustafsson will return to combat sports. His return will be at AK Fighting Championship 3 in Gothenburg, December 11th, in a no-gi grappling match according to MMAnytt.se.

Gustafsson retired from MMA following a tough submission loss to Anthony Smith in Stockholm in June. It was his second straight loss after being TKO’d by Jon Jones at UFC 232. Since making his retirement, he has shown some regret about his decision, and even hinted at a comeback. While many fans were hoping for Gustafsson to return to MMA, seeing him compete will surely satisfy many Swedish fans.

“This is a super fun thing, to return to Gothenburg and compete under somewhat different circumstances,” Gustafsson tells MMAnytt.se. “It also feels great to give back to the Swedish fans.”

Gustafsson’s return will be against local, undefeated prospect Anton Turkalj, who holds a 3-0 record in MMA.

With Gustafsson teasing a potential return to MMA, perhaps a grappling contest will be enough to entice a return to the UFC octagon. Regardless, this will be a must-see event for Swedish MMA fans.
