Volkanovski targets undefeated Evloev for next UFC title defense

Volkanovski eyes a summer return — Evloev or Rodriguez next?

Alexander Volkanovski wants Movsar Evloev after UFC 314 – and is ready for a fast return.

Volkanovski back on top – and already looking ahead

Alexander Volkanovski is once again king of the UFC featherweight division. The Aussie veteran reclaimed his throne at UFC 314 in Miami, defeating Diego Lopes via unanimous decision after five grueling rounds. Just days later, the champion already has his sights set on his next challenge — and he’s not wasting any time.

“There’s guys like Movsar, who’s undefeated. I’d love to hand him his first loss. We’ll see what the UFC thinks,” Volkanovski said in the post-fight presser.

At 36, Volkanovski showed the same composure and skill that defined his previous reign. Even after being knocked down in round two and suffering temporary vision loss in round four, he kept calm and executed a smart gameplan to secure the win.

Movsar Evloev leads the pack for title contention

One name stands out above the rest in the featherweight title picture: Movsar Evloev. The Russian standout remains undefeated with a 19–0 professional record, including nine straight victories in the UFC. Most recently, he outclassed Aljamain Sterling at UFC 310 in December 2024.

• Record: 19–0 (9–0 UFC)
• Last win: Aljamain Sterling (UFC 310)

Evloev has actively campaigned for a title shot, proposing a showdown at UFC 303 in June — during International Fight Week. His dominant wrestling and sharp control have earned him respect across the division, even though all of his UFC wins have come by decision.

“Give my guy his title shot!” one fan wrote on X. “He’s the most dangerous matchup for Volkanovski.”

While he’s been criticized for not finishing fights, Evloev’s unbeaten run and disciplined style make him a legitimate threat.

Rodriguez pushes for rematch after UFC 314 victory

Meanwhile, Yair Rodriguez is also knocking on the door. After finishing Patricio “Pitbull” Freire at UFC 314, the former interim champion called for a second chance against Volkanovski — whom he lost to via TKO at UFC 290 in July 2023.

“If the UFC gives him the fight, I won’t object,” Volkanovski said. “Honestly, before he beat Pitbull, I didn’t think he’d get that shot. But he’s calling for it now, and I’ll leave it up to the UFC.”

Rodriguez, always a fan-favorite, wants the rematch to take place in Guadalajara, Mexico. A home-turf showdown would generate massive regional hype and possibly set attendance records in Latin America.

Volkanovski open to fast turnaround – injury pending

Despite a few post-fight concerns — including possible hand fractures and temporary eye issues — Volkanovski hasn’t ruled out a quick return. His coach, Joe Lopez, noted they are awaiting results to determine the extent of any injuries.

“If everything’s good, I want to fight again soon. Honestly, sooner than people expect,” said Volkanovski. “July or September are both possible. If they want the Evloev fight fast and I feel healthy — no broken hands — we might do it.”

That statement underscores Volkanovski’s trademark mentality: staying active, constantly testing himself, and proving he belongs at the top.

For Volkanovski, it’s about more than the belt

After two tough knockouts, many wondered whether Volkanovski could bounce back. UFC 314 proved he still has what it takes — mentally and physically.

“To be honest, it’s not about the belt. It’s about winning, staying at the top, being successful. This belt just symbolizes that,” he said. “I train hard every day, make sacrifices — and I do it to be the best.”

Volkanovski made it clear: legacy matters more than titles. The championship is a byproduct of relentless hard work and discipline.

What’s next? Evloev or Rodriguez could be on deck

With two worthy contenders in the mix, the UFC has a big decision to make. Evloev represents the technical, undefeated challenge. Rodriguez brings flash, unpredictability, and the potential for a high-profile international event.

No matter who the UFC picks, Volkanovski seems ready.

“Whatever happens, I’ll be ready,” he said. “That’s what champions do.”
