UFC boss speaks out about the return of Conor McGregor

"I wouldn’t be surprised if he came out and wanted to fight..."

In a recent interview leading up to UFC 251, UFC president Dana White opened up about when Conor McGregor might return.

With the tireless work of the leadership and staff, the UFC has somewhat returned to normal. Fights are up and running and this weekend will see the next pay-per-view show; UFC 251. It’s a huge show featuring a total of three title bouts, as well as the return of fan favourite and BMF champion Jorge Masvidal.

While most things are back to normal, the biggest star in MMA; Conor McGregor, is retired. He announced the news several weeks ago, though the claim was taken with a healthy dose of scepticism as he has made retirement announcements twice before – Only to return.

“I’m a bit bored of the game,” he told ESPN. “I’m here watching the fight. I watched the last show — the [Tyron-Woodley-Gilbert Burns] show — I watched the show tonight. I’m just not excited about the game, Ariel. I don’t know if it’s no crowd. I don’t know what it is. There’s just no buzz for me.”

One of those who are also taking the retirement with a grain of salt is UFC president Dana White. In a recent interview, White was asked about McGregor, as well as if – and when -the superstar might return.

“What’s going on with Conor McGregor is what goes on with all professional athletes when they become extremely wealthy,” White said. “Conor McGregor is rich. He gets to pick and choose what he wants to do now, and he’s at that point in his career where he’s got a few fights left. As of right now, he’s retired, but I wouldn’t be surprised if he came out and wanted to fight somebody next year after all these different fights play out.”

McGregor has been linked to several bouts throughout the year since his return at UFC 246. However, nothing has materialised. It remains to be seen if White is correct, and if McGregor will come back for the right fight.

Do you think Dana White is right about when Conor McGregor might return?
