Santiago Ponzinibbio Reveals Injury That Ruled Him Out Of UFC Chile

Argentine Santiago Ponzinibbio has revealed the injury that has kept him from fighting at UFC Chile.

Santiago Ponzinibbio has spoken for the first time since ruling himself out of his fight with Kamaru Usman at UFC Chile on May 19.

Taking to his Facebook page, Ponzinibbio explained that it was an injury to his left hand that caused him to be pulled from the bout:

“Hi folks, as you know yesterday the new UFC Chile fight was announced, I had to abandon the card because of an injury in my left hand, I had an injury training, my medical team said that I did not have conditions to fight, so unfortunately I can’t be there,” Ponzinibbio said.

“It was really painful to leave since I was leading this event, I wanted to make a big fight, but I will return as quickly as possible and we will continue to support all the Latin American brothers who are going to be fighting in the event, which does not lose its shine.

“It’s going to be spectacular and I hope to be present, greetings.”

Ponzinibbio’s replacement will be former UFC welterweight title contender, Demian Maia.

The UFC Chile fight card is currently as follows:
