Max Holloway Faces Jose Aldo in a Rematch as the New UFC 218 Main Event

Aldo campaigned for a second shot at Holloway and now he gets it.

Featherweight champion Max Holloway will still fight at UFC 218 as scheduled and he’ll be facing the man he beat to win the title earlier this year.

Jose Aldo campaigned for a chance to face Holloway on Dec. 2 and now he’s got it as the two top ranked featherweights meet in a rematch in Detroit.

Sources close to the matchup confirmed the news on Saturday following an initial report from Combate in Brazil.

Aldo steps into the fight on three weeks notice after Frankie Edgar suffered an injury that forced him to drop out of the main event against Holloway.

Aldo suffered a third round TKO loss to Holloway back in June but now he’ll attempt to get back the title as they meet in a rematch taking place at the Little Caesar’s Arena in Detroit.

Aldo was already in training camp preparing for a bout against Ricardo Lamas later in December, but now he’ll have to get ready for five rounds with Holloway at UFC 218

The UFC 218 card also features a slew of ranked fighters on the main card including former title contender Alistair Overeem facing fearsome heavyweight prospect Francis Ngannou as well as “Ultimate Fighter” coaches Eddie Alvarez and Justin Gaethje squaring off in a key fight at 155 pounds.
