Main Event Set But UFC on FOX 26 Loses One Fight Due to Weight Cutting Disaster
A pair of late notice replacements failed to make weight for UFC on FOX 26 on Friday with one fight being cancelled while main event fighters Robbie Lawler and Rafael dos Anjos were both on point for their welterweight bout.
Lawler came in at 170.5 pounds while his opponent dos Anjos was at 170 pounds exactly for their welterweight battle that could determine the next No. 1 contender in the division.
Unfortunately the co-main event did not go off without a hitch as late replacement Josh Emmett failed to make weight for his second bout at featherweight against former title contender Ricardo Lamas.
Emmett came in at 148.5 pounds — two and a half pounds over the featherweight limit — for his fight with Lamas.
Things got even worse on the preliminary card where flyweight newcomer Pietro Menga didn’t even weigh-in after reportedly expecting to come in at least five pounds over weight when he started to experience medical related issues from the extreme cut.
His opponent Tim Elliot weighed in at 125.5 pounds but now the fight will be cancelled after Menga not only failed to make weight but came in so far over the flyweight limit.
Menga originally accepted the bout on two weeks notice following an injury to Justin Scoggins but now there’s no telling what the UFC will do next after he failed to make weight on Friday.
