Glover Teixeira gets Covid – Next week’s UFC main event rescheduled

Sadly, Covid-19 has struck again, affecting yet another main event

Since UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones has vacated the title the division has undoubtedly become somewhat more interesting. Brazilians Thiago Santos and Glover Teixeira were scheduled to meet next week in an exiting bout, but the bout has been rescheduled as the latter tested positive for Covid-19. Brazilian outlet Combate were the first to report the news, later confirmed by sources to MMA Junkie.

OTHER MMA NEWS:

Despite turning 40 this year, Teixeira is enjoying a four fight winning streak and also has wins in five out of his last six fights. In 2019 he bounced back from a decision loss to Corey Anderson by defeating Karl Roberson via submission. He then lined up three additional wins, including yet another submission win over Ion Cutelaba and most recently a TKO victory in a main event battle against former title contender Anthony Smith.

Santos hasn’t fought since UFC 239 where he went he distance with Jones. Over the coarse of five competitive rounds Santos took it to the champion, even doing enough to win the fight on one of the judges’ scorecards. However, Santos badly injured both his knees in the bout, forcing him to rehabilitate his injuries for over a year. The loss to Jones snapped a four fight winning streak including KO’s over Jan Blachowicz and Jimi Manuwa.
