Fabricio Werdum vs. Alexander Volkov Headlines UFC Fight Night in London

A long wait is finally over as the UFC has booked a main event for the upcoming card in London as former heavyweight champion Fabricio Werdum will take on top 10 ranked contender Alexander Volkov in the five round headline fight on March 17.

UFC officials confirmed the news on Thursday.

Werdum (23-7-1) had been asking for a title shot against Stipe Miocic following his recent two fight win streak, but the UFC opted to match him up with light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier instead.

Not one to sit around and wait, Werdum opted to book another fight as he takes on a tough Russian heavyweight who is undefeated thus far in his UFC campaign.

Volkov (29-6) has rocketed up the rankings since first arriving in the UFC and now he’s built a 3-0 record including victories over Stefan Struve and Roy Nelson.

Now Volkov will get his biggest step up in competition as he faces the former heavyweight champion in Werdum with the winner sitting in a prime position for title contention later this year.
