Dricus du Plessis Unfazed by UFC Champ’s Death Threat Ahead of UFC 297

UFC 297 Showdown: Dricus du Plessis Unshaken by Strickland's Threats

Dricus du Plessis, the rising star in UFC’s middleweight division, remains cool and collected despite the recent death threat from reigning champion Sean Strickland. As UFC 297 approaches, du Plessis appears more focused on his fight than on Strickland’s menacing words.

Last Saturday, Strickland issued a stark warning to du Plessis about refraining from any trash talk related to his traumatic childhood experiences. Strickland went as far as stating,

“Listen, Dricus, we’re going to try and kill each other in the octagon, but if you mention that stuff again, I’ll actually stab you.”

Responding with a mix of humor and indifference, du Plessis chuckled at the comment.

“I mean, it’s pretty intense,” he remarked during the UFC 297 media day. “I don’t know about the laws here, but it seems like Team Strickland needs to keep their boy in check.”

Addressing the potential risks of Strickland’s outburst, du Plessis acknowledged a slight concern about the champion potentially sabotaging the match. However, he emphasized his primary focus on the upcoming fight, stating, “Right now, I’m here to become the middleweight world champion. I’m focused on the fight, not on jokes.”

UFC 297, set to ignite fans’ excitement on January 21, will feature the much-anticipated middleweight title bout between Sean Strickland and Dricus du Plessis, alongside a stacked card including the vacant bantamweight title fight between Raquel Pennington and Mayra Bueno Silva, and other thrilling matchups.
