UFC light heavyweight titleholder Alex Pereira, who recently claimed the vacated title at UFC 295, is open to a proposed standup duel with Jamahal Hill. Hill, having relinquished the title due to injury, vowed a “standing knockout” against Pereira, known for his impressive strike-based victories in both MMA and kickboxing.

During a live YouTube Q&A, Pereira, inducted into the GLORY Kickboxing Hall of Fame, responded to Hill’s comments with skepticism. “I think he’s a little bit [overconfident],” Pereira said through a translator. He emphasized his focus on delivering good fights rather than making bold predictions.

Pereira, renowned for his one-punch knockout power, has achieved striking victories over notable fighters like Jiri Prochazka and Israel Adesanya. His victory over Prochazka marked his second UFC title win in just his 11th MMA bout, demonstrating his dominance in the 205-pound division.

Though Pereira initially expressed interest in an MMA trilogy bout with Adesanya, he acknowledges Hill as a logical next challenger, considering his own history in kickboxing. “I think Jamahal is a good fight for me,” Pereira stated, indicating his readiness to face Hill’s striking prowess.

While Adesanya has opted for a break from competition, Pereira respects his decision, focusing instead on the potential matchup with Hill.
