UFC Singapore results: Ben Askren loses second straight fight – GETS CHOKED OUT

The battle of the grapplers at UFC Singapore delivered great BJJ, the full results are now in for the event

The UFC returned to Singapore today, with an interesting fight card featuring an important welterweight clash in the main event. Now the full results for UFC Singapore are in.

Grappling giants Demian Maia and Ben Askren met in the main event. As two of the best grapplers in the UFC, the beginning of the bout was contested mostly on the feet, though Askren landed top position at the end of the opening round. Maia slwoly started pulling away, though, with crisper striking and sharp transitions on the ground. In the third round he got top position, locked up a rear naked choke and momentarily put Askren to sleep.

This was Askren’s second straight loss via a finish that left him (at least partly) unconscious. Maia now extends his win streak to three straight victories in the octagon.

The co-main event saw lightweights Michael Johnson and Stevie Ray collide. While Johnson had the experience edge against top-notch competition, it was the Scot Ray who pulled away after the first round. Combining sharp striking and effective grappling, Ray pulled off a moderate upset, defeating Johnson via unanimous decision.

Beneil Dariush laid out a quick submission win over Frank Camacho, in an impressive return to form. Frenchman Ciryl Gane also set a divisional record for latest submission finish at heavyweight, submitting Don’tayle Mayes via heel hook at 4:46 in the third round.
