Team Leon Edwards SLAMS “Little Rat Judas” Jorge Masvidal!
Leon Edwards‘ coach Dave Lovell does NOT think that Jorge Masvidal deserves the next title shot and slams Masvidal’s attempts to jump the queue.
Edwards and Masvidal have a rivalry that goes back to 2019. Back then, Masvidal was the hottest name in the UFC while Edwards was still trying to climb to the top. Now, the situation has changed as Edwards is the newly crowned welterweight champion while Masvidal is on a three-fight skid.
Edwards has said that he is open to the idea of defending the welterweight title against Masvidal, but Edward’s trainer Lovell thinks it’s time for “Gamebred” Masvidal to get a taste of his own medicine.
“Leon has been climbing the hill for a long time, as you know,” Lovell told MMA Junkie. “And he’s tried to reach the top and each time he does, he’s been knocked back, knocked back, knocked back. But now he’s climbed the top. Now he can be the one at the top of the mountain knocking back people. Well, you can stand at the back of the line, Mr. Masvidal, for starters.”
“Mr. Masvidal, you little rat Judas, your time will come also, but we’re picking on our terms. The same way you told Leon to wait at the back of the line, well you wait now, mate, because Leon is at the top of the hill.”
Masvidal and Edwards got into an altercation backstage after a UFC event in 2019. After shouting to each other, Masvidal walked up and punched Edwards in the face with a combination which came to be known as the infamous “three piece and a soda”.
Since then, attempts have been made to match the two welterweights. As recently as last December, Edwards and Masvidal were scheduled to fight at UFC 269. However, Masvidal pulled out due to injury and instead faced his former teammate and friend Colby Covington, a main event bout Masvidal lost decisively.
Just a few weeks after the loss, Masvidal attacked Covington outside a restaurant in Miami. “Gamebred” Masvidal was arrested and has been in trouble with the law since the incident in March, charged of aggravated battery and criminal mischief. While Masvidal is getting ready for his pre-trial hearing on Aug. 31, Edwards is planning his first title defence that most probably will be against Kamaru Usman.
