Stephen ‘Wonderboy’ Thompson vs. Jorge Masvidal Booked for UFC 217

A pair of hard hitting welterweights are ready to meet at UFC 217.

Fresh off back-to-back title fights against Tyron Woodley, Stephen “Wonderboy” Thompson will look to climb back into the championship picture when he faces Jorge Masvidal on Nov. 4 at Madison Square Garden in New York.

Thompson (13-2-1) wasn’t able to wrestle away the welterweight title from Woodley in two attempts but that won’t stop the Simpsonville, South Carolina native from clawing his way back into contention.

Prior to those two fights with Woodley, Thompson had rattled off seven straight wins including a dominant victory over Rory MacDonald as well as a knockout over former champion Johny Hendricks.

Masvidal (32-12) has been itching to get back in action after losing a razor close split decision to submission specialist Demian Maia in May.

That setback came after Masvidal had picked up three victories in a row including a lopsided TKO against Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone earlier this year.

“Wonderboy” vs. Masvidal joins a growing lineup at UFC 217 including two title fights as Georges St-Pierre takes on Michael Bisping with the middleweight strap on the line while Cody Garbrandt faces T.J. Dillashaw in a grudge match for the bantamweight championship.
