Max Holloway Issues Statement After Being Forced Out of UFC 222

Max Holloway breaks his silence after being forced out of his fight against Frankie Edgar at UFC 222

Max Holloway desperately wanted to stay in the UFC 222 main event but his body told him otherwise.

The UFC featherweight champion suffered an ankle injury that forced him out of his upcoming fight against Frankie Edgar on March 3, which is the first time Holloway has ever dropped out of a bout during his career.

Obviously, Holloway was brokenhearted to have to pull out of a fight as he expressed in a series of messages released on Saturday night after news broke that he was off the card.

The UFC is still scrambling to try and find a replacement main event for the card, but as of yet no decisions have been made.

There is talk that Edgar may stay on the card against undefeated featherweight contender Brian Ortega but attempts to book a new main event between bantamweight champion T.J. Dillashaw and Cody Garbrandt did not come together.

For now, UFC 222 remains without a headline fight while Holloway looks to recover before hopefully booking his next title defense in the near future.
