Khabib Nurmagomedov Challenges Floyd Mayweather To A Boxing Match After Submitting Conor McGregor
Undefeated UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov has thrown down the gauntlet to undefeated retired boxer Floyd Mayweather Jr.
Nurmagomedov has been at odds with the UFC over the past week following the fall out of the brawl at UFC 229 where he defeated Conor McGregor. With the Russian’s teammate Zubaira Tukhugov being removed from his fight with Artem Lobov next weekend at UFC Moncton, Nurmagomedov took to social media to let the UFC know he would request his release unless he was reinstated.
Things then took a bizarre turn this Friday when 50 Cent took to social media and sent Nurmagomedov a ‘serious offer’ to fight under the Bellator MMA banner for a $2 million fight purse.
Nurmagomedov, who returned to Russian mid-week to hero’s reception, was ringside in Russia this Saturday for a World Boxing Super Series event where he ran into Mayweather CEO Leonard Ellerbe. The two then took the chance to get everyone on social talking with Nurmagomedov laying down the challenge to Mayweather Jr. in a boxing fight.
“Let’s go Floyd. We have to fight now: 50-0 versus 27-0,” Nurmagomedov said.
“We are two guys who never lose. (But) in the jungle there is only one king. Of course, I am the king because he cannot drop McGregor but I drop him easily. Let’s go.”
Mayweather famously defeated McGregor in a boxing bout in Aug. 2017 to take his record to 50-0. A similar style bout with Nurmagomedov would be far-fetched given the Russian’s wrestling background, but Nurmagomedov and his team must be welcoming the ever growing amount of alternatives been put on the table given his current difficulties with the UFC.
