Ben Askren vs. Robbie Lawler Moved from UFC 233 to UFC 235 in March

Former Bellator and ONE champion Ben Askren will have to wait five more weeks to finally make his Octagon debut when he faces Robbie Lawler at UFC 235 on March 2 in Las Vegas.

Former Bellator and ONE champion Ben Askren will have to wait five more weeks to finally make his Octagon debut when he faces Robbie Lawler at UFC 235 on March 2 in Las Vegas.

The fight between Askren and Lawler was originally scheduled for UFC 233 on Jan. 26 in Anaheim but the UFC cancelled that card this week after failing to secure a main event for the show.

On Thursday, the UFC then announced that Askren vs. Lawler had found a new home at UFC 235, which is scheduled to take place at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

Askren has been a coveted pickup by the UFC after a trade was orchestrated to bring him to the organization in exchange for former flyweight champion Demetrious Johnson, who will now compete in ONE Championship.

Askren is undefeated in his career with title reigns in both Bellator and ONE Championship and the former Olympian hopes to make a similar impact in the UFC.

Meanwhile, Lawler will be returning to action after not competing in 2018 due to a knee injury suffered in his last fight against Rafael dos Anjos.

Lawler is a former UFC welterweight champion who would like nothing more than to give Askren a rude welcome in his debut and hand the former NCAA champion wrestler the first loss of his career.

As of now, no main event has been announced for UFC 235 but it’s expected that more fights will be added in the coming days.
