Ilia Topuria Criticizes Holloway’s Excuses Ahead of Potential Fight

Topuria Frustrated by Holloway’s Excuses, Awaits Confirmation

The current UFC featherweight champion, Ilia Topuria, is eagerly anticipating his next fight but remains without a confirmed match. The Spanish fighter last delivered a stunning knockout victory over former champion Alexander Volkanovski at UFC 298 earlier this year. Despite the anticipation surrounding a potential bout with UFC star Max Holloway, the date remains uncertain.

Topuria’s Call for Action

Topuria has voiced his frustrations regarding the delays in scheduling the match with Holloway.

“You need to start asking Max Holloway about this. I have prepared all summer and am ready for a fight date. He’s the one coming up with all types of excuses. First, it was family problems, then he said he couldn’t make weight. There are several guys saying they’re ready to fight, keep your word. This is my job, I’ll be ready when the UFC calls,” Topuria stated.

Preferred Locations and Timeline

Topuria has expressed his preference for fighting in Abu Dhabi but is open to Las Vegas.

“I aim to fight in Abu Dhabi, and I hope it happens. I’m even open to fighting in Las Vegas, but I have my preferences. Ideally, I want to fight in Abu Dhabi so everyone in Spain can watch the fight at the best time,” he added. The UFC is tentatively targeting this bout for UFC 306 in September at the Las Vegas Sphere.

Holloway’s Recent Victories

Max Holloway is riding high off a spectacular knockout victory against top-ranked lightweight Justin Gaethje at UFC 300. Holloway dominated Gaethje, finishing him in a wild exchange in the final round. Before that, Holloway secured victories over Arnold Allen and Jung Chan-sung. Holloway’s recent performances have positioned him as a prime contender for Topuria’s title.

Ongoing Speculations and Reactions

The tension between Topuria and Holloway continues to build. Topuria remains confident, downplaying Holloway’s recent achievements.

“I saw, well nothing special to be honest with you. In the end, a game of exchanging blows without any strategy behind, just throwing blows without any defense, hands down, and well that can happen, but that would never happen with me because I am a person who thinks inside the Octagon,” Topuria remarked about Holloway’s performance against Gaethje.

As fans eagerly await the official announcement, both fighters are maintaining a war of words, setting the stage for what promises to be an electrifying showdown.
